2012 BMW M3 CRT Lightweight Sedan Debuts at Nurburgring
Huge rear seat bolsters. Sure, there are lot of great things about the new M3 CTR Lightweight sedan, which debuted at BMW’s M Night (Shyamalan?) in the opening festivities to the Nürburgring 24 Hours race, but the bolsters are just awesome to look at. Please do so for a while in our galleries, then move on with the rest of this story.
There was a lot of speculation after the original BMW M3 Lightweight Sedan Concept debuted a few months back that the production version would share the base M3’s motor, not the larger, more powerful one from the Euro-only GTS coupe. That isn’t the case, which is fortunate for every one of the 67 people who will get to buy one at a price not yet disclosed. That engine is a 4.4-liter V8, delivering 450 horsepower at 8300 rpm and 324 lb-ft of torque at 3750 revs. Out back, the sports exhaust gets a lightweight titanium muffler. Things the CRT doesn’t share with the GTS? A factory roll cage and those cool center-lock hubs. This car has boring old wheel bolts.
